Fans of South African music who were unable to attend the landmark Scorpion Kings Live concert at FNB Stadium will have a chance to experience it again, as SABC1 is set to air the event on television for the first time.
As the event’s Official Broadcast Partner, SABC1 will present Scorpion Kings Live to viewers nationwide on Saturday, 3 October 2026, at 20:00, on SABC1 and SABC Plus. This broadcast represents a significant moment for South African music programming.
The concert took place at FNB Stadium on 19 September 2026 and featured several prominent figures in South African music, celebrating the diverse sounds, talents, and cultural movements that are influencing the music scene in the country and beyond.
At the forefront were the renowned Scorpion Kings, Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa, whose influence on the Amapiano genre has played a crucial role in shaping a new chapter in South African music.
The concert boasted an impressive array of artists showcasing the rich diversity of contemporary South Africa. From the emotive performances by Ami Faku, Msaki, Nobuhle, Nokwazi, Nkosazana Daughter, and Mlindo The Vocalist to the vibrant beats of Amapiano, represented by Daliwonga, Young Stunna, Focalistic, Kamo Mphela, Toss, Tman Xpress, and LeeMckrazy, the event provided a musical experience that resonated across generations.
The collaboration between SABC1 and Scorpion Kings Live unites two entities deeply embedded in the fabric of South African music, youth culture, and entertainment. By broadcasting the concert for the first time, SABC1 is reaching numerous viewers beyond the confines of the stadium, setting a new milestone for music broadcasting in the country.
Dichaba Phalatse, SABC Video Entertainment Marketing Manager, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating: “Scorpion Kings Live is more than a concert; it is a defining South African cultural moment. SABC1 is proud to pioneer the event’s first-ever television broadcast and bring the energy of FNB Stadium to audiences across the country. This is what it means to be The Source of Mzansi: connecting viewers to the artists, sounds and moments shaping our culture, and ensuring that important cultural experiences are shared with the nation.”
The Scorpion Kings themselves expressed their enthusiasm about this expanded reach for the event.
“Scorpion Kings Live was too special to be experienced for one night only. We will carry the historic moment from FNB Stadium with us for a long time. Now, for the first time, people across South Africa can relive that experience from wherever they are.
“We’re excited to bring the music, the performances and the energy of Scorpion Kings Live to SABC 1 and SABC Plus on 3 October for millions to watch.”
