New accusations have surfaced in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court amid the ongoing bail hearing of suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya.
The prosecution claims that Sibiya exploited personal connections and misrepresentation to gain access for underage individuals to a restricted entertainment venue in Sandton.
As per court testimonies, Sibiya is alleged to have escorted a group of underage women to The Grand strip club, where entry is restricted to individuals aged 21 and older.
The state asserts that since the participants were underage and not permitted to enter, Sibiya specifically solicited assistance from a close friend, who owns the establishment, to bypass security measures.
Additional evidence from Detective Sergeant Nokukhanya Ndlovu, the state’s first witness, suggested that Sibiya misled the club staff and instructed the teenagers to falsely state that they were there for a birthday celebration.
The court also learned that the young women were initially not aware that their destination was a strip club.
These revelations are part of a larger, high-profile criminal case against Sibiya, aged 59, who was apprehended at the same Sandton establishment on September 21, 2026. He faces five serious charges, including the rape of an 18-year-old, human trafficking, sexual grooming of a minor (involving a 16-year-old victim), and negligent firearm handling.
The prosecution argues that on the night of the alleged rape in May 2026, Sibiya provided the young women with alcohol at the restaurant within the venue before relocating them to a nearby hotel.
Sibiya has denied all accusations, asserting that they are politically motivated and “trumped up” to tarnish his reputation.
In a statement made in response, he insisted that his encounter with the 18-year-old complainant was entirely consensual.
The prosecution is continuing to oppose bail, highlighting significant concerns regarding the potential for witness intimidation, given Sibiya’s high-ranking position in law enforcement, as well as a risk of flight.
The bail hearing is still in progress in Johannesburg.
