Nigeria kicked off their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory against Madagascar in Uyo on September 25, 2026. After that match, Éric Chelle spoke highly of his players for their resilience and dedication in turning the match around to secure three points.

However, the Super Eagles struggled to build on that success, suffering a disappointing 3-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau in their next match of Group L qualifying.
The focus now shifts to the friendly in Moscow, where the Super Eagles aim to strengthen their unity as a team against the Russian national squad on October 6.
