KMAT, a South African DJ and record producer known for her contributions to the Amapiano genre, has been recognized not only for her music but also for her role in fashion. She has been named one of eleven women participating in Thebe Magugu’s MAGUGU FC Women’s League 2026.
This initiative highlights women who are influential in shaping the music scene in South Africa, showcasing their unique styles and impact across various genres. Thebe Magugu aims to draw a connection between music and football, emphasizing the contributions of women advancing the country’s sound.
In a social media announcement, the fashion brand articulated the significance of football as a unifying element in Africa. However, this year’s initiative expands the focus to celebrate music, recognizing another domain where South Africans are leaving their mark.
“Across the African continent, football has always been a powerful unifying language. MAGUGU FC continues our annual study of football fever on the continent, this time looking beyond the pitch to another field on which South Africa has consistently played & changed the game: music,” the brand shared.
“For its 2026 Women’s League, MAGUGU FC assembles eleven women shaping the sound of South Africa today through their distinct sonic identities. From amapiano & house to techno & ggom, these women move between genres, often blending them into something entirely new. Each player occupies her own position & brings a distinct style of play.”
Alongside KMAT, the league includes other prominent female artists, such as DBN Gogo, DJ Count Lupa, DJ CNDO, Mamthug, Baby Whitz, Kitso Kgori, DJ AN.D, DJ Tinuke Eboka, DJ Tumelo Moliko, and Likkyliks.
KMAT expressed her enthusiasm on social media about participating in the league, viewing it as a chance to transfer her competitive nature to a different setting.
“From making people move on the RAVE floor to making moves on a different field. I’m bringing the same energy, passion and competitive spirit to MAGUGU FC. This is bigger than the game, it’s about women showing up, taking up space and proving that we can excel in every field we step into. New team, new challenge, same Kmat. Let’s play,” she wrote.
The initiative not only honors artists but also intertwines fashion through the MAGUGU FC Women’s League jersey. The limited-edition piece was released exclusively at AKJP in Cape Town starting 29 October and will also be available at MAGUGU HOUSE in Johannesburg and Cape Town from 5 November.
Thebe Magugu’s 2026 Women’s League offers a platform that merges football, fashion, and music while acknowledging the vital contributions of women to South African culture.
For KMAT and her fellow participants, this is a chance to highlight their impact, represent their musical styles, and demonstrate that women are capable of excelling in various fields.
