RB Leipzig has officially initiated discussions with Liverpool regarding the potential transfer of Harvey Elliott. The Bundesliga club is making a concerted effort to secure the 22-year-old’s services.
Softfootball can confirm that negotiations are in progress, with Leipzig identifying Elliott as a key target to replace Xavi Simons, who is expected to join Chelsea.

German journalist Florian Plettenberg reported the latest development via his official X account. He stated:
“Harvey #Elliott is very high on RB Leipzig’s shortlist, as previously mentioned in our show. Multiple clubs are interested in the 22-year-old Liverpool midfielder, but Leipzig is making significant moves now. The clubs are in contact. #LFC Elliott has already spoken with Ole Werner and Marcel Schäfer.”
Elliott has already engaged in discussions with Leipzig head coach Ole Werner and sporting director Marcel Schäfer, indicating his willingness to consider the move. While several Premier League clubs, including West Ham, are keeping an eye on the situation, Leipzig is currently positioned as the frontrunner.
The prospect of Elliott leaving Liverpool arises from his wish for more regular playing time. Last season, he managed only 18 appearances in the Premier League, primarily as a substitute. Despite his allegiance to Liverpool, he is not willing to endure another season with limited opportunities.

The recent addition of Florian Wirtz has further complicated Elliott’s chances for more minutes under the new manager, Arne Slot, who has taken over from Jürgen Klopp. While some players have thrived in the new system, Elliott seems to be falling down the pecking order.
Liverpool reportedly values Elliott at £50 million, which could be a significant hurdle for RB Leipzig. His current market value is closer to €30 million, complicating negotiations. Leipzig’s financial maneuverability may depend on the transfers of Simons and Benjamin Šeško, who has been linked with Manchester United.
A major obstacle for Leipzig is their absence from European football for the 2025/26 season. For a player like Elliott, who aspires to compete in the Champions League, this lack of participation could be a deterrent unless Leipzig can persuade him of their long-term vision and commitment to a key role in the team.
Interestingly, Elliott was once associated with a potential swap deal with Bayer Leverkusen involving Wirtz, but that transfer did not materialize. However, if Elliott chooses to leave Anfield, the Bundesliga remains a strong possibility.
Currently, RB Leipzig is actively pursuing the deal. Their success will depend on Liverpool’s willingness to negotiate on the price and how quickly Leipzig can sell assets to fund the transfer.
With less than a month remaining in the summer transfer window, Harvey Elliott’s future remains uncertain. Yet, it is clear that the young midfielder is in search of a new challenge, and Leipzig is prepared to offer it.
