Vitor Reis is set to embark on a new journey, this time heading to Spain. The young Brazilian defender, aged 19, is anticipated to travel to Girona on Wednesday, August 6, where he will finalize his medical examinations and sign a loan deal for the season. This information has been corroborated by various sources, including renowned transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.
Softfootball reports that an agreement between Manchester City and Girona FC was established two days prior and is now fully approved by both parties. This transfer is aligned with a well-thought-out development strategy refashioned by the City Football Group (CFG), which manages both teams.

Notably, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano updated fans via his official X handle, providing insights on Reis’ move to Girona and new information regarding the transfer.
He stated:
“Understand Vitor Reis travels to Spain tomorrow for medical tests and contract signing at Girona. Loan deal from Manchester City, verbally agreed as reported two days ago… and also signed now.”
The intention behind this move is for Reis to gain regular playing time within La Liga, an opportunity deemed essential for his development and prospects of joining Brazil’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Earlier this year, in January 2025, Reis transferred to Manchester City from Palmeiras in a deal valued at €35 million. Since arriving in England, he has participated in four senior matches, notably a full 90-minute appearance in the Club World Cup final, where City emerged victorious.
Although his chances under Pep Guardiola have been limited, Reis is still viewed as one of Brazil’s foremost defensive talents. At only 19, the loan to Girona presents a significant chance for him to acclimatize to European football within a competitive league. Manchester City is concurrently engaged in contract negotiations for Ballon d’or winner Rodri amid interest from Real Madrid.

As Girona aims to stay competitive in La Liga while nurturing young talent, Reis is anticipated to integrate seamlessly into their defensive lineup.
Insiders indicate that both Manchester City and Girona, connected through CFG, have been in continuous dialogue to finalize the deal. Now, only formalities are left before he joins Girona’s pre-season training squad.
Should everything go according to plan, Vitor Reis might be officially presented by Girona before the week’s end, marking yet another significant milestone in his early yet promising career.
