Tragic Women's Day: Remembering Four Lives Lost in Limpopo Bus Accident

Tragic events unfolded on Women’s Day in Limpopo as a bus accident resulted in the loss of four women’s lives.

The tragic incident took place on Saturday, 9 August, along the R81 route in Sekgopo, located in the Mopani District.

LIMPOPO BUS ACCIDENT CLAIMS LIVES OF FOUR WOMEN

As per reports from the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, initial investigations suggest that the bus driver lost control, leading to the vehicle overturning.

Unfortunately, four women were pronounced dead at the scene. In addition, eight other passengers suffered serious to moderate injuries, while 45 individuals, including the bus driver, experienced minor injuries.

“All injured passengers were swiftly transported to Kgapane Hospital, Mankweng Hospital, and Van Velden Hospital for urgent medical care.”

CAUSE OF ACCIDENT UNDER INVESTIGATION

The Department has stated that the precise cause of the incident is still being examined.

In the meantime, Susana Mathye, the MEC for Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo, has expressed her heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of those who lost their lives.

Mathye noted that their thoughts and prayers are with them during this extremely challenging time.

“We also wish those injured a full and speedy recovery. On this somber note, we urge all road users, particularly public transport operators, to exercise extreme caution, strictly obey the rules of the road, and prioritise the safety of all passengers.

“Let us work together to ensure that every journey ends with the safe arrival of all travelers,” she reiterated.
