Manchester United is intensifying their search for a striker with less than four weeks remaining in the transfer window.
Search has been challenging
The club has already watched pivotal targets like Liam Delap, Viktor Gyokeres, and Hugo Ekitike sign with competing Premier League teams.
The Red Devils have turned their attention to Benjamin Sesko as their primary striker objective.
However, Newcastle United has already submitted two significant offers for the player, raising doubts about whether United can financially compete with Red Bull Leipzig.
Backup options under consideration
While United remains optimistic about finalizing a deal for Sesko, they are also preparing alternative targets in case they are unsuccessful.
It’s possible that Ruben Amorim’s team could rekindle interest in Ollie Watkins, but The Sun has linked United with a new target, Evangelos Pavlidis.
The UK newspaper notes that “Amorim and United are looking at both Porto’s Spain international Samu Aghehowa and Benfica’s Greek star Vangelis Pavlidis.”
Extensive experience
The Greek striker, aged 26, boasts a significant amount of experience at both club and international levels.
With 48 caps for Greece, he joined SL Benfica the prior season.
- In a remarkable debut season, Pavlidis netted 30 goals in 57 matches for As Águias.
He is renowned for scoring a hat trick for Benfica against Barcelona in the Champions League, and he concluded the tournament with a total of nine goals.
Pavlidis has been described as a player who is “unstoppable in front of goal.”
This striker is also regarded as having “strong ball control ability and is capable of sniffing out chances with his shrewd positioning in the opposing half and his excellent shooting accuracy.”
