DJ Poizen’s death in horrific car crash shocks Limpopo music scene
DJ Poizen, whose real name was Cavin Masetla, has tragically passed away after a devastating accident on the N1 road near Ysterberg mountain in Polokwane.
The 33-year-old artist from Tickeyline village in Tzaneen was traveling alongside fellow musician Chymamusique when the incident took place in the early hours of Saturday.
Authorities report that the crash involved two cars and resulted in five fatalities, with some of the victims being severely burned.
Additionally, two individuals suffered critical injuries and were transported to the hospital.
“Out of the five people who passed on, four of them were burnt beyond recognition and the two injured which include a driver and passenger were taken to a nearby hospital,” stated Tidimalo Chuene, spokesperson for Transport and Community Safety.
Initial investigations indicate that reckless driving may have contributed to the accident.
MEC Violet Mathye conveyed her distress over the increasing number of deadly accidents, stating: “Our hearts are with the families and next of kin of those who lost their lives and at the same time, we wish a speedy recovery to those injured. I once more urge all road users to be patient on the road. I am seriously concerned about these accidents which are as a result of recklessness.”
Poizen, who was affiliated with House Victimz in the past, had recently teamed up with Kabza De Small, Jus Funo, and Seraph IM on a track that was set to be released in November.
The unexpected loss has left the Limpopo and South African music community in disbelief, with fans and fellow artists inundating social media with tributes to the skilled DJ and producer.
