Change is upon us, and TransUnion is spearheading the initiative!Be the Reason Things Change—a courageous campaign addressing one of South Africa’s primary issues: financial exclusion—is set to create a significant impact.
This initiative transcends simple finance. It focuses on visibility, empowerment, and reshaping the future. Many South Africans have struggled to access information related to credit. Now, that is set to change.
Shattering barriers, quite literally– TransUnion has launchedAfrica’s first peelable billboardin Melrose Arch, Johannesburg. This eye-catching, interactive display encourages the public to peel away layers of ignorance, fear, and exclusion. What lies beneath each layer? A QR code that grants access to acomplimentary e-learning course valued at R2,000.
But that’s not all. TransUnion will support this movement with incredible prizes:
- Five Education Fund prizeseach worth R20,000 to aid tuition and learning expenses.
- Ten Tech-for-Learning prizesvalued at R7,000 each, which include a laptop and 12 months of data—empowering learners for a digitally connected future.
This is much more than just an installation—it represents a bold statement. Nearly 50% of South Africans do not fully grasp how credit functions, with over 16 million individuals still excluded from the financial system.Be the Reason Things Changereclaims the power for the people.
SA CPS Q2 Credit Awareness Highlights:
- 93% believe that credit is essential for reaching financial objectives
- 70% assert that credit creates new prospects
- 55% are actively seeking to boost their credit scores
- 32% use their credit reports as protection against fraud
On26 August, the initiative will expand into the digital realm with an online peelable billboard experience for another 4,500 South Africans, amounting toR10 million in free credit education, training, and rewardsacross the nation.
“Visibility is power,” says Amy Beck, CMO TransUnion Africa. “When people understand how credit works, they gain the confidence to change their future, and lenders gain the insights to see them clearly. This campaign is about breaking down barriers and empowering South Africans to take control of their financial story.”
The initiative is supported by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and features prominent South African figures Springbok Lukhanyo Am and fashion entrepreneur Tshepo Mohlala, who will be among the first to strip away layers and share their inspiring journeys from challenges to success.
✨This transcends credit—it’s about unlocking possibilities. It’s about being acknowledged, included, and inspired to aspire for greater things.
