Experienced South African Afro-pop artist Nhlanhla Mafu has made a notable transition from singing to DJing. She has now embraced her identity as a DJ.
Primarily recognized for her contributions to the esteemed group Mafikizolo, Nhlanhla Mafu is exploring a fresh interest in the music arena. As reported by Sunday World, she often features Afrotech, 3Step, and Afrohouse in her performances.
Mafu discovered her talent for DJing thanks to a friend, Kgomotso ‘DJ So’ Zukani. She recounted attending one of his performances purely to support him. He invited her to perform at the end of his set, impressing everyone present. Since that moment, she has dedicated herself to refining her skills, managing to learn the craft in just three days.
Her debut gig as a DJ came when she was booked for a Women’s Day celebration at a venue.
Nhlanhla performed at Laparada on Women’s Day and assured her audience that it would be an unforgettable experience.
“Can’t wait to celebrate Women’s Day with y’all this Saturday at @laparadanorthriding It’s gonna be such a special one for 1 night only. Come experience me like you’ve never before. It’s gonna be so fun.”

Following that initial performance, Mafu mentioned she has been entertaining friends and family at private events. Now that she has improved her transitions, she feels ready to share her enthusiasm with Mzansi.

What’s next for Mafikizolo?
Although she is engaging in DJ performances, Mafu emphasized that this aspect of her career is just for enjoyment. She underlined that her primary commitment lies with Mafikizolo.
She prefers performing with the band rather than seeking opportunities every weekend, demonstrating her dedication to her bandmate, Theo Kgosinkwe.
Nhlanhla had previously taken a hiatus from Mafikizolo in 2024 to focus on her solo music endeavors.
