SAMA Award-winning R&B artist lordkez is making waves online with the drop of her much-anticipated single and music video for “Aweh Remix”, featuring the multi-platinum rapper and cultural influencer Cassper Nyovest. Just five days after its debut, the remix has already garnered over 280,000 views, securing its spot as one of the season’s most discussed partnerships.
The “Aweh Remix” serves as more than just a musical piece; it celebrates language, culture, and identity, artfully expressed through its storytelling. lordkez combines rich melodies with profound lyrical content, using local vernacular that highlights South Africa’s diverse heritage. When she sings “Dala What You Must”—a phrase common in the coloured community meaning, “do what you have to”—she roots her artistry in authenticity, allowing fans to connect with her on an intimate level.
The collaboration formed in an unexpected manner. “The song was already gaining momentum when Cassper reached out on TikTok after seeing clips of the video,” recalls lordkez. “He congratulated me and asked if he could participate in a remix. Collaborating with him and his team has been wonderful.”
In this track, lordkez explores isiZulu for the first time, guiding listeners through a poetic love story in the chorus, where she tenderly reassures her love interest with “Ngithi ngihamba nawe”, which translates to “I’m leaving with you.” This expression of vulnerability and commitment showcases her bold creativity and her ability to bridge languages in the name of romantic expression.
Cassper Nyovest contributes his distinctive Setswana rhythm, delivering a verse that anchors the song in cultural customs and affection. His lyrics, “Really wanna make you my wife sab’ serious, sab’ serious (Eish). Lak’sina malume, kopa ho gafa lobola ya five stina,” convey a sincere intention — his readiness to make a commitment. Tapping into African customs, he alludes to lobola, the practice of providing a bride price to the family of the bride, when he states: “Uncle, I want to give you lobola money of five thousand rands.”
Even though lordkez recorded in Paris and Cassper in South Africa, the remix came together seamlessly. “I was walking in Paris while watching him record his verse live on Twitch. It felt surreal!” she chuckles.
Lordkez was determined to maintain the essence of the original track. “I wanted to keep changes minimal. Cassper infused his unique energy while remaining faithful to the song’s message.” With its polished production, heartfelt lyrics, and Cassper’s effortless flow, the “Aweh Remix” is set to be a highlight of the summer soundscape.
