Arthur Mafokate sues ex-lover Cici
Arthur Mafokate, a prominent figure in the kwaito music scene, has filed a legal action against his ex-partner, singer and actress Busisiwe “Cici” Thwala, seeking R1.5 million in damages through a lawsuit in the Johannesburg High Court.
The 56-year-old artist asserts in his legal documentation that comments made by Cici on social media last September were both defamatory and harmful to his personal and professional standing.
Mafokate claims that the statements made have resulted in significant emotional turmoil and have hindered his business activities.
The contested social media content purportedly included allegations that Mafokate assaulted Cici and “almost murdering” her, and the posts featured images said to depict X-rays related to her previous pelvic surgery.
Mafokate was earlier found not guilty of assault charges that emerged from a widely reported incident involving the pair in 2017.
This case signals the continuation of an extensive legal dispute between Mafokate and Cici, which traces back to a confrontation they had in June 2017.
During that incident, Cici claimed Mafokate dragged her alongside his vehicle, while Mafokate alleged that she was the aggressor.
Both parties have been acquitted of previous criminal charges related to this ongoing dispute.
Attempts to reach Cici’s attorney for comment were unsuccessful, and Mafokate has chosen not to speak publicly regarding the new lawsuit.
The proceedings are currently ongoing in the Johannesburg High Court as the defamation claim is addressed.
