Budget-Friendly Tips for Experiencing Cannes Like a VIP

Affordable Ways to Enjoy Cannes in Style

South African media figure and fashion lover Kim Jayde has just returned from the renowned Cannes International Festival of Creativity.

She brings back an engaging insider’s guide for South Africans eager to discover the enchantment of the French Riviera.

KIM JAYDE AND THE LOVE FOR CANNES

In collaboration with Air France, she shares her best advice to ensure your trip to Cannes is memorable.

Kim highlights Air France as an excellent starting point for any adventure in France. “The moment you step onto an Air France flight, you experience French hospitality and culture,” she states.

Every Business Class traveler is greeted with a glass of champagne, and even those in economy class get to enjoy champagne served during the flight.

“It’s a luxurious touch that sets the tone for the journey,” Kim explains. During her flight, she savored classic French documentaries paired with fine red wine and steak, enhancing her authentic experience.

KIM JAYDE’S RECOMMENDATIONS

When it comes to lodging, Kim suggests exploring the picturesque town of Antibes, located a mere 15 minutes from Cannes, according to Urban Lifestyle SA.

“It has beautiful, more budget-friendly choices like two-bedroom Airbnbs,” she notes. This option is ideal for travelers on a budget wishing to blend with the elite attending Cannes.

With €1 roughly equal to R 20, she points out that a train ticket from Antibes to Cannes is about R 140, while Uber fares range from R 520 to R 980.

“Europe’s trains are efficient, clean, and air-conditioned, making them a wise choice for getting around,” she advises.

CANNES SPOTS FOR FOOD LOVERS

Food enthusiasts must not overlook the local boulangeries. “Bring cash for the family-run bakeries where the French perfect fresh bread, cheese, and cold cuts,” Kim advises.

She recommends Banana Blue, a quaint eatery tucked away from the main beach area, known for its fresh pizza and pasta. “The French know how to enjoy life—no stress, no hurry,” she adds.

Beach days in Cannes are essential, with the Mediterranean waters at La Plage warming to a delightful 23°C during summer.

Kim recommends hitting the beach around 4 pm when it’s cooler, followed by sundowners and dinner at nearby cafés as the sun sets as late as 9 pm.

CONNECTING WITH LOCALS

In terms of packing, Kim suggests lightweight, breathable fabrics. “Leave your suits and jeans behind. Think cool linens, cotton shirts, flowy dresses, and shorts,” she recommends.

When it comes to language, she emphasizes the significance of polite French greetings.

“Try to greet people in French, and they appreciate the effort,” she notes, adding that many locals will respond warmly and switch to English or suggest Google Translate if needed.

A MAGICAL DESTINATION

Reflecting on her journey, Kim quips, “This was my first visit to France, and I fell in love with Cannes. From the cuisine and atmosphere to the safety and the absence of load shedding or water interruptions!”

She has already noted her calendar for a potential return in 2026. Kim concludes, “Cannes is a magical destination; you should definitely add it to your bucket list.”

For bookings and further information, South Africans can visit the Air France website.
