Chidinma Adetshina shows support for Super Eagles during Afcon 2025
Former Miss South Africa participant Chidinma Adetshina has expressed her backing for Nigeria as she rallied online support for the Super Eagles just ahead of their encounter with Mozambique scheduled for Monday night.
Adetshina, now championing Nigeria after her contentious departure from the Miss South Africa competition, shared an enthusiastic message on X to inspire the national team as they geared up for their match.
“It’s Super Eagles day. Let’s fly higher than weather!” she tweeted.
The message quickly garnered attention, partly due to ongoing discussions about her nationality and involvement in Miss SA 2024.
At the time of her pageant participation, she faced considerable backlash from many South Africans, questioning her eligibility, which ultimately led to her withdrawal.
Following this, the Miss Nigeria Universe organization extended an invitation to Adetshina, enabling her to represent Nigeria internationally, thus beginning a new phase in her pageant career.
The timing of her Super Eagles message sparked further discussion, coming shortly after the Bafana Bafana’s exit from Afcon 2025 in a 2–1 loss to Cameroon.
This context prompted a variety of responses from users in both South Africa and Nigeria, with opinions sharply divided.
Some critics seized the opportunity to ridicule her, with comments like, “Representing a disgraced country is wild,” while another remarked, “Bro, u are not Nigeria.”
Conversely, others lauded Adetshina for her resolve and display of national allegiance.
One supporter stated, “Sure knows how to cook… more love from this side,” while another defended her amid the criticisms, acknowledging the emotions linked to South Africa’s Afcon exit and supporting her choice to back Nigeria.
