Acclaimed actress and producer Connie Ferguson celebrated the birthday of her daughter Lesedi Matsunyane-Ferguson through a touching tribute that reminisced about the night of her birth on New Year’s Eve.
On Instagram, Connie shared an image of Lesedi, recalling the intense moments that preceded her daughter’s arrival on December 31, 1992. While most were preparing for the new year, she found herself engaged in a spirited exchange with nurses at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.
Connie recounted how the medical personnel initially assessed that she had not yet entered labor and suggested that she return home, a recommendation she dismissed.
“I knew you would show yourself at any moment! And as moms usually are, I was right!” she reflected.
As noted by the actress, Lesedi was born at 21:15 in a quiet moment that briefly sparked fear in Connie before being replaced with great relief.
“You arrived in silence, scaring the hell out of me, only to give the most glorious cry I have ever heard after a short while,” Connie described.
Now, after 33 years, she views her daughter as more than just a child, referring to her as a “drama queen,” a source of light, a friend, and her dearest New Year’s gift.
In concluding her message, Connie expressed a heartfelt prayer for Lesedi’s future, seeking divine protection, direction, and blessings, ending her note with loving words that resonated with many on social media.
“My baby, my favourite New Year’s present… I love you my Sedii! Happy birthday, Pumpkin.”
