Fans of South African hip-hop have taken to social media to express their anticipation, and it has finally arrived. Following numerous appeals for Tswyza to make the freestyle-conversation sessions from The Tswyza Show available on streaming platforms, Volume One was officially released last Friday.
This project showcases 13 tracks featuring some of the most talented MCs who appeared on the show — including Landrose, N’Veigh, ZuluMecca, PDot O, Kane Keed, Ta Longz, and others. Among those, Kane Keed’s performance stands out as a personal highlight, although I still wish that Tony Dangler’s memorable episode had been included.
This album is filled with verses that prompt contemplation on whether we, as South Africans, genuinely value our own hip-hop. It features an impactful mix of discussions and sharp flows, a project that should not rely on external validation from American reviews when we can acknowledge Tswyza’s talent right here.
This is not about fleeting trends or superficial rap. It possesses depth and artistic value. It’s the kind of work that will remain significant a decade from now.
As one listens to the album, it becomes evident why Tswyza is recognized as one of this year’s standout MCs. Stream the album, check out the visuals on YouTube, and be sure to express your support on social media.
