DJ Bongz has addressed the rising controversy surrounding Viewz Urban Grill and Rooftop in Durban, following his recent acquisition of the venue, previously known as Views at 25.
The artist and entrepreneur has faced allegations on social media concerning unpaid wages for staff, theft, and operational status of the venue.
In light of these claims, Bongz took to social media to clarify the situation, denying any allegations of misconduct.
In a video he posted on Instagram, Bongz suggested that increased success often leads to scrutiny.
“When you are born with a star, you don’t get to rest. No matter what you do, if you have an anointing, people will trouble you in many ways,” he said.
“You will try to work with people, then they’ll select your name out of many others because it’s you. You might wake up today thinking you did right, then wake up the next morning with people saying you are doing something else because you have an anointing.”
<p.Bongz, born Bongani Dlamini-Ngcobo, also shared an official message from the business in response to the allegations. The statement detailed internal challenges, attributing them to misconduct from certain managerial staff.
“Over the past two months, management uncovered repeated incidents of stock and cash theft involving specific individuals. These activities severely affected the financial stability of the business,” the statement read.
“Criminal cases have been opened against the individuals, and the matter is receiving the attention from the relevant authorities.”
The statement acknowledged there were delays in staff salary payments at times but contested the notion that employees had been left without support.
It noted the financial burden from the alleged theft put significant pressure on the business.
“Due to the financial losses caused by the theft, the business was placed under extreme financial strain. During this period, the owners made personal financial contributions to ensure that staff continued to receive payments where possible.”
In reference to allegations regarding a manager taking a company phone for unpaid wages, the management dismissed this rationale, describing it as part of the broader misconduct currently under review.
“Theft of company property is unlawful and cannot be justified under any circumstances and regardless of internal disputes,” the statement emphasized, confirming that Viewz Nightclub is still operational.
