The summer transfer window presents a prime opportunity for Manchester United to pursue players who fit Ruben Amorim’s tactical style.
After securing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo as two attacking midfielders, the focus now shifts to bolstering other areas, particularly the midfield.
The team’s midfield vulnerabilities were highlighted during a goalless pre-season draw against Leeds, where Amorim admitted: “We lacked pace, particularly in central areas.”
There is a pressing need for balance and dynamism in the midfield, which remains a work in progress.
Luiz: A Key Target for United’s Midfield
Several high-profile midfielders have been linked to the club, including Douglas Luiz.
Having been a standout performer for Aston Villa as their pivotal midfielder, Luiz’s contributions were integral to the team’s qualification for the 2024–25 Champions League.
Juventus signed him for £50 million, looking to replicate his Premier League success in Italy.
However, his time at the Allianz Stadium has not gone well.
Injuries hampered his performance, and he struggled to maintain the momentum that saw him score 10 goals and provide 11 assists from a deep midfield position in the 2023–24 season.
Having recorded no goals or assists in 27 appearances for Juventus, the club is now reportedly keen to sell.
Luiz’s Recent Decisions Raise Exit Speculations
Alongside United, a number of Premier League teams, including Everton and West Ham, are rumored to be interested.
No agreements have been reached between any clubs and Juventus yet, but recent developments regarding the player’s actions suggest he may be signaling for a transfer.
Due to their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup, Juventus were set to resume pre-season training today (July 24).
Luiz was anticipated to report back but was notably absent, according to Fabrizio Romano.

A Prime Opportunity
After a disappointing season in 2024-25, it’s clear that Luiz is not interested in remaining at Juventus, and his absence from training underscores this sentiment.
While Juventus may impose disciplinary measures for his conduct, they might also be eager to expedite his transfer.
For prospective suitors, the moment to act could be now.
This might be the perfect scenario for United to propose a tempting offer or revisit previously discussed swap deals.
There have been suggestions of exchanges involving Luiz and either Rasmus Hojlund or Jadon Sancho.
United is in urgent need of a reliable midfielder who can provide stability and control in midfield.
That’s precisely what Luiz was able to deliver during his tenure at Villa Park.
With INEOS keen to recruit proven Premier League talents, this deal could be mutually beneficial.
Once signed, Luiz could form an excellent partnership with Bruno Fernandes in central midfield, a composition that would undoubtedly strengthen United’s lineup.
