At a recent concert in Amsterdam, the renowned rapper Drake, 38, shared with his audience a meaningful connection he has with the city.
He opened up about how Amsterdam holds a significant place in his heart.
Interestingly, Amsterdam is the “special place” where his son Adonis was conceived roughly seven years ago.
The rapper’s path to fatherhood
Drake’s path to fatherhood was filled with challenges.
His former partner, Sophie Brussaux, gave birth to their son, Adonis, in October 2017. The rapper initially expressed uncertainty about the paternity, but he eventually accepted it, confirming his role as a father in his song “Emotionless.” In his lyrics, he mentioned that his intention was not to keep his child hidden from the world but rather to protect his child from some aspects of the world.
Drake later described his relationship with his ex, a previous adult film star, as complex.
On HBO’s The Shop, he conveyed the following:
I am a single father learning to communicate with a woman who, we’ve had our moments. I do want to be able to explain to my son what happened. But I don’t have any desire for him to not love his mother. I don’t ever want the world to be angry at his mother.
The rapper continued by saying:
We have found ourselves in a situation and we are both equally responsible. Now, I’m just really excited to be a great father.
Currently, it seems that Drake plays a vital and active role in his son’s life. He has been seen attending NBA games with Adonis, organizing adorable and themed birthday celebrations, and sharing heartfelt posts about his son on his Instagram account.
Drake discloses that Adonis was conceived in Amsterdam
At his performance in Amsterdam on July 30, 2025, Drake expressed his deep love for the city, revealing its unique significance to him.
He disclosed that Amsterdam is the location where his son Adonis was conceived.
While on stage, Drake mentioned:
I was just saying backstage, I was saying that this is the place. A very special place in my heart. Because this is where my son was conceived. So this is a big show for me, you know. There would be no Adonis if there wasn’t Amsterdam, so shoutout to y’all.
Audience members were moved by the homage to both Adonis and the city of Amsterdam.
Drake proceeded to put on a memorable performance for his fans in Amsterdam, showcasing a selection of songs from his catalog and extending his time on stage.
This tribute and performance clearly highlight that both Adonis and Amsterdam hold deep meaning for the rapper.
