Massive R54.3 Million Drug Bust in Goodwood: Two Arrested in Operation Restore

In a significant drug bust in Goodwood, police seized R54.3 million worth of heroin and tik during an intelligence-led operation on Tuesday. Two foreign nationals, a 32-year-old Tanzanian and a 28-year-old Burundi, were arrested after officers discovered 145kg of tik and multiple quantities of heroin in a home on Molteno Street.

Details of the Arrests

Two foreign nationals, a 32-year-old Tanzanian and a 28-year-old Burundian, were arrested following the police operation. They are expected to appear in court on Tuesday for drug-related charges.

The Tanzanian national is facing serious allegations of dealing in heroin, reportedly valued at R1 million. Meanwhile, the Burundian is charged with possession of an additional 100 grams.

As Lieutenant Colonel Pojie stated, “members attached to Operation Restore acted on information” that led to these significant arrests, showcasing police commitment to combating drug trafficking in the area.

Magnitude of the Drug Seizure

Police seized a staggering R54.3 million worth of drugs, including 145kg of tik and 16kg of heroin. This marks one of the largest drug busts in the region’s recent history.

The estimated street value of the drugs highlights the growing issue of substance abuse and trafficking. Authorities encourage community reports to assist in curbing this dangerous trend.

Lieutenant Colonel Pojie remarked that the drugs were discovered hidden in the roof, emphasizing the elaborate methods used in trafficking. Investigations are still ongoing by the Provincial Organised Crime Unit.
