DStv users have received an unexpected boost as the television service provider has announced that 12 popular channels will maintain their broadcasts into 2026, countering previous indications of a potential closure.
The channels affected include Discovery Channel, TLC, Cartoonito, Cartoon Network, CNN International, Food Network, The Travel Channel, TNT, Investigation Discovery, Real Time, HGTV, and Discovery Family, which were supposed to cease operations at midnight on December 31, 2025.
Entertainment analyst Phil Mphela shared this information on X, noting that a new multi-year deal between Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery was completed just before it was due to expire.
“DStv to keep 12 TV channels set to shut down tonight. Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery have finally signed a new multi-year deal that will keep 12 TV channels on DStv. The agreement also includes HBO content on M-Net and the rollout of the HBO Max streamer in Africa in 2026,” Mphela tweeted.
Despite the positive reception from fans, not all channels have been secured.
Channels such as Bet_Africa, CBS Justice, CBS Reality, and MTV Base Africa, owned by Paramount Africa and CBS AMC, are still slated for removal from DStv’s offerings.
