In March 2026, the Premier League title race is evolving, with insights from a recent analysis on The Overlap podcast shared on their official x handle. Two significant summer acquisitions have taken center stage: Viktor Gyökeres at Arsenal and Benjamin Šeško at Manchester United.
According to the podcast:
“I did say I think he can score between 10 and 12. If he carries on now, I believe he could probably get more. Every single goal now is so important because Arsenal are in everything all the competitions.
Especially after those two goals he scored against Spurs, hopefully he can go on a run. People constantly talk about him as the guy who scores against the lower-end teams which he did in Portugal and is doing here but that’s exactly what Arsenal always needed.
We’ve shown we can score against the top six. What we need is someone who can break down defenses and finish chances like that and those finishes were exactly what they bought him for. Really good.
When I watched Šeško as well, there’s something about it it’s really clean, like boom, boom. But against a low block, when it’s all condensed around him, he can struggle. He just needs help. He needs someone closer to him.
He’s got 10 goals now. I said 10 to 12 but if he gets 15 or 16 and people are still talking, then it’s a hit.”

The discussion highlighted Gyökeres as the missing puzzle piece for Arsenal. Earlier in the season, Mikel Arteta’s team had difficulty against teams that defended deeply, often controlling possession but failing to score. Gyökeres has altered that scenario.
His knack for penetrating the six-yard box, reading second balls, and executing “clean finishes” has enhanced Arsenal’s prowess in close encounters. Gaining 10 goals in the Premier League, it was noted that if he reaches 15 or 16 this season, it would be a notable achievement.

His recent goals against Tottenham were highlighted as evidence of his capability on significant occasions, rather than solely against weaker opponents. Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær affirmed this perspective after Arsenal’s 4–0 victory over Bournemouth, labeling Gyökeres a genuine “Fox in the Box”, a description referring to a striker renowned for instinct, positioning, and efficiency.
Solskjær noted that this specific characteristic now distinguishes Arsenal from their past performances and provides an advantage in the title race.
Simultaneously, Benjamin Šeško has ignited a notable turn of events for Manchester United. After being named Player of the Month for February, Šeško impressed with five goals in four matches, including critical contributions against Manchester City and Liverpool.
On The Overlap, his finishing style was characterized as “clean and boom,” indicative of minimal touches leading to maximum effect. His combination of speed, strength, and directness has renewed United’s attacking strategy under Michael Carrick.
Softfootball framed the scenario as the
“battle of the summer strikers.”
While Gyökeres brings tactical control against organized defenses, Šeško introduces explosive energy in fast-paced matches. Both players are anticipated to net over 20 goals across all competitions this season.

As Arsenal gets ready for a crucial London derby against Chelsea, the focus shifts to whether Gyökeres can exceed the 12-goal threshold suggested by analysts, and if Šeško can sustain his current impressive form as the title race reaches its critical juncture.
