Elon Musk has called on his 227 million followers on social media to terminate their Netflix subscriptions, alleging that the streaming service is pushing what he terms as transgender propaganda.
As part of his latest cultural campaign, the Tesla executive has aligned himself with a movement initiated by the conservative social media account Libs of TikTok , which highlighted the animated show “Dead End: Paranormal Park” and Netflix’s diversity initiatives as reasons to stop using the platform.
‘Disrespectful’
The creator of the show, Hamish Steele, has been criticized for social media comments regarding conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination in September, which many conservatives interpreted as disrespectful, igniting the controversy.
Following the emergence of the scandal, Netflix’s stock dropped two percent on Wednesday and fell an additional two percent on Thursday on Wall Street.
“Cancel Netflix,” Musk stated in a Wednesday post on X, the platform he owns, referencing an earlier post by Libs of TikTok.
This earlier post included images from a Netflix company report showcasing its increase in the number of non-white directors and lead actors featured in its productions.
Transgender issues
In a subsequent message regarding the situation, Elon Musk urged his followers to “Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids.”
Steele responded to the uproar in a few subsequent Bluesky posts that have since been removed, declaring, “It’s all lies and slander!”
Musk, recognized as the world’s richest individual, has a personal stake in transgender matters. His eldest daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, underwent a public transition in 2022, changing both her name and gender identity legally.
Musk has expressed that his child was “killed” by the “woke mind virus” prevalent in a prestigious school in California.
