Fabian Holland, aged 22, makes his test debut for New Zealand against France after transitioning from a rugby enthusiast in the Netherlands to a professional player in Dunedin.

He moved from Castricum, Netherlands, to New Zealand at 16, where his commitment to rugby solidified at Christchurch Boys High School, renowned for producing All Blacks legends.

“It’s like something out of a movie,” remarked coach Scott Robertson, highlighting Holland’s dedication to realizing his dream of playing for the All Blacks.

The Uncapped Players Joining Holland on Debut Day

Fabian Holland will debut alongside three other uncapped players, including Christian Lio-Willie, who expressed excitement about sharing this milestone moment in Dunedin.

Lio-Willie praised the opportunity of debuting with Holland, revealing that their first starting match also took place at Forsyth-Barr, making it a significant occasion.

“It’s sort of a full-circle moment,” Lio-Willie stated, reflecting on their journey from teammates in Otago to representing the All Blacks together.


Amid cheers from a sold-out Dunedin crowd, All Blacks debutant Fabian Holland will realize his childhood dream on Saturday, joining captain Scott Barrett in a historic match against France. This moment encapsulates his remarkable journey from the Netherlands to New Zealand rugby lore.
