Kelvin Momo, a prominent figure in South Africa’s Amapiano music scene, is currently facing intense scrutiny from fans following his absence at a scheduled performance at Sun City Resorts this past weekend. As he is set to perform at the Joburg 94.7 Day, questions are arising about his reliability.
Disappointment turned to doubt on social media, as fans who were left without a show in Sun City expressed their anger. Many are skeptical about whether the “Private School Amapiano” star will actually appear in Johannesburg, with some demanding that he be replaced immediately.
“Aaah are you guys still believing in Kelvin Namanje. Maybe you should check at Oscar Mbo for a replacement,” one frustrated fan remarked, encapsulating the sentiments of many. Another fan, Hlengiwe Thusi, was direct: “Find Kelvin’s replacement right now!”
Others called for improved management of events, suggesting that organizers need to monitor Momo’s whereabouts more closely. Mbasa Volwan commented, “Hopefully Kelvin Momo arrives to this gig. Y’all should start communicating with his management from now, and daily control.”
The criticism wasn’t any softer from Taelo Mashego, who labeled Momo as “unreliable and unprofessional,” adding: “Please find a replacement for Calvin Momo now. Ask Sun City Resort, they know him better.”
Concerns regarding professionalism among top local artists also emerged. Mthobeli Lida Phele expressed his frustration: “Any other reliable artists you can bring us? These South African artists, few thousands and they start diva tendencies…”
More cynical fans shared their thoughts, with Lemogang Temes suggesting that organizers should put Momo in a hotel right next to the venue and even “guard him,” ultimately stating: “Kelvin won’t come to the show…”
Some fans are left wondering about refund policies should Momo choose to repeat his no-show. Musa Zondi asked straightforwardly: “Will we get refunds if Momo doesn’t show up?”
However, there were a few defenders of Momo who argued that critics are overreacting. Ntanazo Nanto Mizzou commented: “People are bitter. Because Momo didn’t pitch in your event you wanna cancel him. Get out of here haters.”
Additionally, humorous remarks about Momo’s reliability circulated, with one user joking: “Let’s hope Barcelona is not playing on the day.”
A Question of Trust
Although Kelvin Momo remains popular in the Amapiano genre, his recent no-show has sparked significant concerns about his professionalism and respect for fans. With the Joburg 94.7 Day approaching, all eyes will be on Momo to see if he can prove the doubters wrong or further ignite their frustrations.
For the time being, fans are divided—some remain hopeful for his redemption while others brace for potential disappointment.
