The Russian Alabuga recruitment scandal might have dealt influencer Seemah a significant setback as she lost millions of followers, yet she remains dedicated to addressing the issue.
Having been linked to the alleged trafficking operation disguised as job offers pushed by South African influencers, Seemah encountered criticism and was accused of being involved in a potentially harmful venture.
Following her now-famous breakdown responding to the scrutiny, Seemah is determined to progress by restoring her public image.
Since the controversy, she has not only suffered the loss of her TikTok account, which had 2.8 million followers, but she is also facing accusations of trafficking. Seemah opened up in an interview on Podcast and Chill on 1 September, expressing that the backlash was overwhelming.
“How am I gonna get my followers back? People are calling me a human trafficker. My name is being dragged because of this thing, I can’t even defend myself because I don’t have a platform.”
Nonetheless, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Seemah is overcoming the turmoil and working on her comeback. She has started to rebuild her image and is gradually regaining followers through her new TikTok account.

With a current follower count of just 4,470, Seemah has expressed regret for the distress she may have caused her younger audience.
She continues to produce the content her fans adored, encompassing dance routines and entertaining skits alongside her partner Ghost Hlubi. Crucially, she also utilizes her platform to highlight potential risks associated with social media.

Conversely, some accused Seemah of being more concerned about her followers than the young girls reportedly trafficked:
unathi.mooi commented:
“She’s crying for a platform while families are crying for their daughters, sisters and nieces. No matter how much she can try and explain herself, there’s nothing she’ll do to bring those girls back.”
Aus Sharz insisted:
“Bring back the girls, sisi, we don’t want to see your tears. We want to see efforts to bring back the girls.”
Mathebula xiluva Luvazza wrote:
“All she cares about is her platform, not the girls who went to Russia.”
Nomthandazo Radebe expressed her disappointment:
“She’s only worried about being blocked and her lost followers.”
