Four Suspects Gunned Down by Police in Gauteng Armed Robbery Standoff

Police Take Down Armed Robbery Suspects in Gauteng Standoff

On Tuesday, Gauteng police engaged in a shootout in Randfontein, resulting in the deaths of four suspected robbers.

The police action followed a tip-off from the Crime Intelligence Unit in the Eastern Cape, informing them of the suspects’ plot to rob a businessman in Randfontein.

The businessman was reportedly on his way to deposit a significant amount of cash at the bank.

Gunfight on Ventersdorp Road

Members of the Tactical Response Team located the suspects’ vehicle while it was traveling on Ventersdorp Road.

Major-General Fred Kekana, the Gauteng police deputy commissioner, stated that the officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, which had four individuals inside.

“The suspects fired upon our officers, prompting the team to return fire. All four suspects were killed,” Kekana explained.

Police Find Weapons and Traditional Muti

Authorities recovered rifles and handguns at the scene, as well as traditional muti found inside the suspects’ vehicle.

The car had fake license plates, and a sticker on the petrol cap read: “Prayer is the key.”

Commenting on the botched robbery attempt, Kekana remarked, “Neither their muti nor their prayers were effective. They were engaged in criminal activity, and ultimately, the prayers worked in favor of the police.”

Do you believe the police handled the situation appropriately by using deadly force during the robbery attempt, or could they have approached it differently?
