Gavi has shown significant gratitude towards Hansi Flick after making his return to the starting lineup for FC Barcelona following an extended injury layoff.
Softfootball reports, in remarks relayed by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano on his X account, the young midfielder referred to Flick as a paternal figure and expressed gratitude for his unwavering support throughout his recovery process.
Gavi commented:
“Hansi Flick is a father to me. I thank him and appreciate him so much. He told me: be the Gavi you always have been, go and compete like you always do. He has done everything for me every time that I have been injured. I hope he can stay for many years with us.
The heartfelt statements arose after Gavi completed his much-anticipated return to Barcelona’s starting eleven, approximately seven months post an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The Spanish international sustained the knee ligament injury in August 2025 during a La Liga match. This injury necessitated surgery and resulted in his absence for a considerable part of the season.
Barcelona later confirmed that the surgery was successful but noted that the midfielder would be out for several months, representing a significant challenge for the team due to Gavi’s crucial role in their dynamic midfield and style of play.
His return has been warmly welcomed by Barcelona fans, many of whom view it as a substantial uplift to the squad as they progress in their season.
