Gogo Maweni faces assault charge as she prepares to debut new reality show
Gogo Maweni, a well-known celebrity sangoma and reality television figure, is scheduled to appear at the Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto on October 22.
The star, whose real name is Makhotso Lee-Anne Mofokeng, is facing an assault charge with intent to cause grievous bodily harm stemming from an alleged incident on December 18, 2019.
The court proceedings were previously delayed to October 15 to accommodate Maweni, who recently gave birth to twins and needed time to recover.
This case has now been postponed to next week.
Amidst these legal concerns, the 39-year-old mother of five continues to forge ahead with her television career.
She has just concluded filming for her new reality show on Moja Love, titled Thokoza Gogo, which aims to showcase her life journey as a healer, mother, and wife.
In discussing the show, Maweni expressed that viewers will be exposed to a more personal aspect of her life this season:
“People can expect me to do what I do. This year, because of my pregnancy, there will be fewer traditional things, because when you’re pregnant, there are certain things you can’t do.”
She shared her perspective on the need to prioritize her health and family, recalling how she experienced a miscarriage previously due to her work commitments.
“Last year I had a miscarriage because I didn’t want to stop working and I continued as normal. So this year, when we found out we were pregnant, I decided to take a back seat and put my pregnancy first,” she detailed.
Maweni, who welcomed her twins with her husband Sabelo, noted that her pregnancy is especially significant, following their traditional wedding in August 2024.
“Being pregnant this year is something I know he wanted. Besides doing this for our marriage and building our family, I felt this was more important to me,” she added.
She emphasized that her show will present a glimpse into her experiences juggling motherhood, spiritual duties, and the trials of living in the public eye.
“This show is just going to show how I live, what I’ve been doing throughout the pregnancy, and the trials and tribulations of my life.”
