“I don’t believe in marriage, and I don’t ever want to get married,” she stated without hesitation.
Reyneke, known for her role in Bad Influencer, elaborated that her viewpoint stems from observing the unhappiness of women around her in marital relationships. She indicated that these experiences influenced her views from a young age.
“All the married women were lesser than their men; they were almost shadows,” she remarked. She criticized societal expectations for women, saying, “Even the concept of being a bride, where you’re expected to do certain things for your husband’s family but he does nothing for yours. You’re his slave. You are bought, you have to change your last name while your surname dies out.”
While she personally rejects the notion of marriage, Reyneke recognizes that it works for some individuals. She expressed her respect for those who choose to pursue that path, emphasizing that it is not one she envisions for herself.
The actress ended a long-term relationship with actor Thami Mngqolo in 2018. Although they never married, she hinted at having once hoped for a future together before realizing her unhappiness.
Her honest viewpoint has resonated with numerous women online, including those who are married. One supporter commented, “As a married woman, I fully support you, Ntombi!” Another added, “Finally, someone said it. I knew I’d find my people.”
