Kaizer Chiefs have announced that midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala will need surgery following a significant arm injury sustained during the Betway Premiership match against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday night.
The 22-year-old player had to be carried off on a stretcher at Loftus Stadium after a serious challenge from Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams.
Medical scans have indicated that Shabalala has a fracture in his right humerus, the bone located between the shoulder and elbow, necessitating an operation.
This injury is likely to keep the promising young player sidelined for the rest of the season, with the club estimating a recovery time of five to six weeks.
Shabalala was quickly taken to the hospital after the incident and is currently under medical supervision as he prepares for surgery.
The Glamour Boys expressed their support for the midfielder, extending wishes for a successful operation and a swift recovery as he looks forward to starting rehabilitation.
This setback occurs at a challenging moment for the Chiefs, as Shabalala had been one of their standout players in the latter part of the season.
After the match, Adams also used social media to convey his good wishes for a rapid recovery for the Chiefs midfielder.
Additionally, Chiefs were without striker Wandile Duba due to a groin injury in the match against Sundowns.
The club stated that Duba is still undergoing treatment, and there are hopes for his return before the season concludes.
