Commercial radio station Kaya 959 has announced that presenter Sol Phenduka is now on suspension effective immediately.
Kaya959 issued a statement indicating that this action was taken while an internal review is underway.
“The station is committed to following due process, and no further details will be shared at this stage. Updates will be provided once the internal process has been concluded and a final decision has been reached.”
The reason for Phenduka’s suspension has not been disclosed, leaving fans and listeners surprised.
The co-host of “Podcast and Chill with MacG” joined the station three years ago, partnering with the experienced radio personality Dineo Ranaka on the breakfast show. They replaced Thomas Msengana and Skhumba Hlophe in the morning slot at Kaya 959.
Ranaka departed from the station in 2023, and Phenduka is currently teamed up with Sizwe Dhlomo to present the breakfast show.
Initially, during his first months with Ranaka, Phenduka found it challenging to adjust, as listeners expressed concerns that Ranaka overshadowed him during their segments.
Social media users humorously refer to Phenduka as the “traffic guy”, suggesting he often struggles to speak without being interrupted by Ranaka.
There was worry among Phenduka’s fans that his transition to a commercial radio station might spell the end of his podcasting endeavors. However, he reassured everyone of his commitment to continuing with “Podcast and Chill with MacG”.
“I will continue co-hosting Podcast and Chill with MacG as agreed with the Kaya959 management. This alone is a privilege, as it tells me that I am not being dictated to,” stated Phenduka in 2022.
“I see this as a great start to a fulfilling career. I still see my time at the podcast as my career highlight.
