Kwesta and Nota’s shared history in hip-hop
The partnership between Kwesta and Nota Baloyi became more apparent during their time at RapLyf Records, where Baloyi served in an executive capacity and Kwesta emerged as a significant artist for the label.
Their collaboration coincided with Kwesta’s progression from Special Rekwest to the remarkable success of DaKAR II in 2016, with Baloyi frequently recognized as part of the support team for the rapper’s career.
This relationship later soured, and by 2020, public disputes between the two were evident, with Baloyi making several critical comments about Kwesta online. Kwesta, who has marked his long-lasting romance, continues to be a celebrated personality in the local hip-hop scene, recognized for his unique voice and lyrical talent.
Nota’s musical feats
Nota, who recently was reportedly offered a radio position, has a notable track record in the music sector, having facilitated Sho Madjozi’s significant contract with Epic Records and playing a vital role in Kwesta’s accolades at the SAMAs.
He also took the lead in producing his then-wife Berita’s SAMA-winning project Song In The Key Of Love, further establishing his backstage influence. In addition to artist mentorship, Nota held senior positions at two record labels, founded his own company, SoFet Urbantainment, and led The Orchard under Sony Music Entertainment.
His contributions reached international audiences, as he accompanied Sho Madjozi to the BET Awards in 2019 when she took home the Best New International Act title. While primarily known as an executive and producer, he has also featured on tracks like Kwesta’s Preacher and Karma, as well as DJ Lag’s Jungle.
