Major League DJz are currently receiving criticism on X for allegedly not following through on their public commitment to pay producer Mdu aka TRP a sum of $50,000 (approximately R845,000) for his significant role in the amapiano genre.
This controversy began when DJ Maphorisa publicly acknowledged Mdu for his role in popularizing the distinctive log drum, highlighting his impact on the transformation of the amapiano scene and the lives it has affected.
<pFollowing this acknowledgment, Major League DJz tweeted their intention to send Mdu $50,000 as a gesture of thanks for his influence.
However, they subsequently removed the tweet.
Social media users began to voice their concerns, arguing that the commitment had not been fulfilled.
The situation intensified when an account purporting to represent PianoHub, the label associated with Mdu, issued a statement claiming that the producer had not received any part of the promised payment.
“As the management of PianoHub, the label to which Mdu a.k.a. TRP is signed, we hereby confirm that our artist has not received the promised funds,” the statement reads.
