Makhadzi defends herself against tax allegations
Acclaimed South African artist Makhadzi has responded to a report from City Press claiming that she may face asset liquidation due to an alleged tax issue.
The article suggested that the Murahu singer owes R200,000 to a consulting firm, a claim that has generated significant discussion on social media.
In a prompt reaction, Makhadzi took to her official X (Twitter) account, accusing the outlet of spreading misinformation that threatens her reputation.
She wrote: “Dear City Press, can you also publish that I am doing ONE WOMAN SHOW 20 and 21 December at Makhuvha and Ha Rabali Stadium… At least lies must be added with the truth.”
“Whoever published this still thinks we are in 2010 where you can just wake up and damage an artist’s image by lies knowing very well they can’t defend themselves. This is an era of born frees… change your mindset. All I want to say is respect is beautiful… Leskar Nyatsa. How can you wake up and just write lies 😭,” she continued.

The singer’s response has elicited various reactions from her supporters, many of whom encourage her to consider legal measures.
One supporter noted: “Well, that’s an easy R200k for you, Makhadzi. Sue them for defamation and get that free money, with a front-page apology and advert for your upcoming gigs.”
Another remarked humorously: “Official statement with Mxit English 😭 That’s why she’s the African Queen.”
Additional fans simply urged her to take a stand, stating: “Sue whoever wrote this nonsense and make easy money.”
Notwithstanding the ongoing turmoil, Makhadzi is focusing on her scheduled One Woman Show on December 20 and 21, affirming that the event will proceed as planned.
