
Mawhoo attacked on her way to a show
Ntobeko Ngema, known as Mawhoo, announced that she was forced to cancel her performance at the RustyRocks Metro FM Tap Into 2026 New Year’s Eve event at the Sun City Resort after her team was reportedly assaulted during their travel to the venue.
The acclaimed singer posted a video on her Instagram Stories, displaying the wreckage of her tour van.
In the video, Mawhoo claimed that her team was targeted by a group she referred to as “amabhunu/boer” while on their way to their final show of the year.
“Got attacked by amabhunu/boer izolo on our way to our last gig. These people attacked our team, bashaya no driver wami,” she stated.
In light of this alarming incident, Mawhoo’s team issued an official statement confirming that the event would not take place as planned.
“We regret to confirm that Ntobeko Ngema p.k.a. Mawhoo was unable to perform at the RustyRocks Metro FM Tap Into 2026 New Year’s Eve event at the Sun City Resort due to circumstances beyond her control,” the statement noted.
The statement elaborated that the artist and her crew were in transit from a previous commitment when they faced a serious racial incident, damaging their touring vehicle and causing considerable delays.
“Despite all reasonable efforts by Mawhoo Entertainment and the RustyRocks team, it was not possible for the artist to arrive in time for her scheduled performance,” the statement added.
The team expressed their regrets to fans, attendees, and other stakeholders who were looking forward to Mawhoo’s appearance, recognizing the disappointment her absence brought to the New Year’s Eve festivities.
“We sincerely apologise to patrons and stakeholders for the disappointment caused,” the statement concluded.
Mawhoo’s team also confirmed that they have identified those responsible for the incident and intend to pursue legal action.
“We have ascertained the perpetrators’ details and we will be seeking further legal recourse.”
