Amapiano artist MaWhoo had to forgo her eagerly awaited appearance at the RustyRocks Metro FM Tap Into 2026 New Year’s Eve event at Sun City Resort due to an alleged racially motivated attack on her team while en route to the event.
The noted singer, whose real name is Ntobeko Ngema, addressed her absence via her Instagram Stories, posting a video that depicted significant damage to her tour vehicle. In the heartfelt recording, MaWhoo described an assault on her crew as they traveled to what was intended to be her last show of the year.
“Got attacked by amabhunu/boer izolo on our way to our last gig. These people attacked our team, bashaya no driver wami,” she stated, claiming that the driver suffered injuries during the event.
This unsettling disclosure raised alarms among fans and industry colleagues, leading MaWhoo’s team to issue an official media statement confirming that these events impacted her ability to take the stage at Sun City.
“We regret to confirm that Ntobeko Ngema p.k.a. MaWhoo was unable to perform at the RustyRocks Metro FM Tap Into 2026 New Year’s Eve event at the Sun City Resort due to circumstances beyond her control,” the statement indicated.
The announcement detailed that MaWhoo and her group were returning from a previous engagement when they experienced what was termed a severe racial incident and attack. The confrontation reportedly resulted in considerable harm to their tour bus, leading to significant delays that prevented the artist from reaching the venue on time.
“Despite all reasonable efforts by MaWhoo Entertainment and the RustyRocks team, it was not possible for the artist to arrive in time for her scheduled performance,” the statement elaborated.
The team expressed regret to fans, attendees, and stakeholders eagerly anticipating MaWhoo’s performance at the well-known New Year’s Eve event, acknowledging the frustration stemming from her absence.
“We sincerely apologise to patrons and stakeholders for the disappointment caused,” the statement continued, expressing gratitude to supporters for their patience during this trying time.
Additionally, MaWhoo’s team confirmed that the alleged assailants have been identified, and they intend to pursue legal action.
“We have ascertained the perpetrators’ details and we will be seeking further legal recourse,” the statement concluded.
The event has sparked renewed discussions about the safety of artists and their crews while traveling for performances, with fans rallying behind MaWhoo and hoping for a full recovery for her team.
