The METRO FM Music Awards 2026 (MMA’s) will serve as a memorable tribute to musical talent, centered around the theme: Icon-Inspired Music Excellence.
Marking 40 years of METRO FM’s influence in the music scene, this theme honors the icons that have significantly impacted South Africa’s cultural landscape. Set to occur in the vibrant city of Durban, this event blends respect for the past with a vision for the future, showcasing a mix of heritage and brilliance through traditional Zulu cultural motifs.
The theme is illustrated through elaborate beadwork, drawing inspiration from the traditional Zulu izinhlonzi patterns that convey messages of identity, social standing, and affection. Dynamic beadwork animations will animate these patterns, transforming in sync with the three-beat rhythms characteristic of Zulu music. The triangular pattern represents the Isigqi (Rhythm) in Zulu culture, symbolizing the concept of three beats, three points, and an unbroken musical cycle.
Kina Nhlengethwa, Business Manager of METRO FM, comments, “The theme combines the best of African luxury and global style, creating an unforgettable experience that’s both nostalgic and forward-thinking.. It represents the station’s iconic journey of excellence”.
