A man has reportedly declined to return R2.5 million that was wrongly credited to his bank account.
Reports indicate that the funds were inadvertently deposited into the young man’s account, which he then allegedly transferred to another account, making it impossible for the bank to reverse the action.
Authorities launched a search for him after the error was detected, ultimately locating and apprehending him.
Upon being ordered to return the funds, the man reportedly stood firm, even when only a portion of the total amount remained.
“Send me to jail,” he allegedly stated to investigators, asserting that he would not give back the money no matter the circumstances.
This situation has attracted scrutiny because of the boldness of the man’s conduct, along with the legal ramifications of retaining money that was evidently deposited by mistake.
It is still uncertain whether prosecutors will seek further charges in addition to those already filed.
