Nkululeko Mahlangu took decisive action to reveal aspects of his previous marriage to Makoto Phumodi following the recent Married at First Sight season two reunion.
The show features experts who match individuals to marry, with couples meeting for the first time during their wedding and documenting their experiences for several weeks before deciding on the future of their relationship.
Nkululeko and Makoto’s tumultuous marriage ended almost as soon as it began, becoming a topic of discussion on social platforms, and for valid reasons.
The more the situation was explored, the more apparent it became that the couple faced numerous challenges that hindered their marriage.
Despite these issues, Makoto frequently criticized Nkululeko for his alleged failure to “provide” for her and for not trusting her, which ultimately led to Nkululeko emotionally withdrawing from the marriage.
While he believed that his silence was a means to protect their union, during the reunion held on 5 October 2025, he shared insights about the hidden struggles he faced with Makoto. However, that was just the beginning.
During the reunion, Nkululeko unveiled screenshots on his Instagram account showing that Makoto depended on him financially.
Records indicated that he covered expenses such as her nails and rides, amounting to a total of R1,800 given to her between February and March.
Additionally, he presented screenshots of conversations that purportedly depicted Makoto’s infidelity and her housing situation. She allegedly allowed her apartment lease to expire with the expectation of moving in with her husband after the show, a plan that ultimately went awry.
Nkululeko further shared a screenshot from their Instagram chat, where he accused her of having previously dated a mutual friend named Kat, a claim Makoto denies, despite Kat’s purported confirmation:
“I asked and he called and told me the truth, they dated.”
In response, Makoto alleged that Nkululeko has a history of drug use and questioned his sexuality, asserting that he works as a Shein delivery person earning R100 per trip:
“I won’t post how much I contributed because it’s unnecessary. As someone who works as a deliveryman for Shein, I understand why R1800 is such a big deal for him. Production protected him. He’s a broke man!”
These explosive claims created a frenzy on social media, leading some fans to believe that the relationship was destined to fail from the start, while others took sides, fueling a prolonged dispute among their followers.
