A fallout between former acquaintances Bev Steyn and Nonku Williams has escalated to a courtroom confrontation, with Steyn claiming that Williams is living extravagantly while neglecting to repay a significant debt.
Steyn has initiated legal proceedings, asserting that Williams owes her R125,000—money she alleges was lent during a challenging time.
What initially seemed to be a supportive relationship has deteriorated into a serious disagreement, with Steyn expressing discontent over what she sees as poor decision-making on Williams’ part.
She has criticized Williams for spending on luxury fashion instead of working towards settling the debt.
Steyn highlighted reports indicating Williams spent R27,000 on Gucci items, neglecting her obligation to repay the loan.
This dispute traces back to a written agreement established in August of the previous year, which combined an earlier R25,000 loan with an additional R100,000.
The agreement, which carried a high interest rate of 50%, required repayment by September; however, Steyn claims she has yet to see any repayment.
Reflecting on her decision to lend the money, Steyn mentioned the emotional context at that time.
“She was scared she was going to lose her home,” she commented, adding, “That influenced my emotions as a mother.” Now, her tone has shifted, stating, “She can run but she can’t hide.”
Meanwhile, Williams has opted not to comment extensively on the growing allegations, stating only that she will handle the situation through appropriate legal means.
As the case progresses in court, a personal favor has evolved into a highly public dispute.
