Nottingham Forest Parts Ways with Edu Gaspar in Surprising Shake-up

Sello Mojaring March 13, 2026 3 minutes read

In an unexpected turn of events at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest has parted ways with Edu Gaspar, who held the position of global director of football. This decision concludes the Brazilian executive’s brief stint at the Premier League club.

This development was first reported by transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano through his official X account.

Fabrizio’s statement:

It’s over between director Edu Gaspar and Nottingham Forest. The Brazilian director will part ways with Forest very soon, it’s all decided internally. Edu has been big part of Arsenal rebuilding for 5 years, signed at Forest in July 2025 but now set to leave as relationship with ownership is broken.

Edu’s exit comes less than a year after his appointment at Forest in July 2025, a move that was initially regarded as a significant step for the club’s leadership.

Softfootball has learned that the former Arsenal official was anticipated to spearhead a long-term football initiative at Forest after a successful tenure in North London, where he played a pivotal role in revitalizing Arsenal’s status as title contenders.

However, his time with the East Midlands club quickly became contentious. Reports indicate a high turnover of first-team personnel and substantial investment in the squad, yet the performance on the field did not match the expectations set by the club’s management.

Insiders report that tensions intensified in recent weeks, ultimately culminating in a breakdown of communication between Edu and the club’s leadership. It has been highlighted that he was explicitly instructed to avoid both the City Ground and the club’s training facilities, indicating a clear loss of trust between the director and the club’s executives.

This situation reportedly stems from disputes with the club’s prominent owner, Vangelis Marinakis, whose management style has drawn scrutiny during Forest’s recent presence in English football.

Edu’s exit adds to a series of significant changes at Nottingham Forest this season. In September 2025, the club announced the sacking of manager Nuno Espósito Santo. Shortly after, Sean Dyche took over on October 21, 2025, but was let go after just four months on February 12, 2026.

Despite the unforeseen conclusion of his role in England, Edu may soon receive opportunities. Brazilian club Flamengo is reportedly keeping a close eye on his situation as they seek a replacement for Jose Boto, whose future at the club is uncertain.

Edu’s background in European football and previous experience with the Brazil national team position him as a potential asset for the role.

For Nottingham Forest, this sudden change underscores the ongoing instability faced by a club struggling to maintain consistency both on and off the pitch. The leadership now faces a pressing challenge to keep the team concentrated on the remaining matches of the season without a key figure overseeing football operations.

The timing is particularly critical for Forest, as the club currently hovers near the relegation zone in the Premier League, shifting their focus solely toward ensuring survival.

Ironically, the turmoil off the field follows a notable performance on it. Forest recently secured a 2–2 draw against reigning champions Manchester City in a match that could impact the 2025/26 title race. The loss of points was significant for City, who are competing with league leaders Arsenal. Following Arsenal’s win, they have extended their lead to seven points at the top of the table.
