Penuel compares himself to late Charlie Kirk after assassination
South African podcaster Penuel Mlotshwa has sparked discussions online following his recent remarks likening himself to Charlie Kirk.
The American activist, known for his right-wing views, was killed on 10 September 2025 during an event at Utah Valley University.
In a TikTok video posted on 12 September, Penuel discussed Kirk’s assassination and expressed how he understands the sentiments surrounding it.
“Charlie Kirk could be me. I’ve said some polarising, triggering and gaslighting things online. Whether it’s about religion, politics, or the ANC government, there are people who have been incredibly upset by some of my utterances,” Penuel stated.
He noted that his candid expression of opinions has drawn both backlash and incidents of harassment directed at his guests for their beliefs.
Penuel articulated that those who express strong opinions often face dangers.
“We must remember that in the world out there, there are people who get emotional about what we say and will do crazy things because they are stupid, mentally unstable and very passionate about their cause,” he remarked.
He conveyed sympathy for Kirk’s passing, while emphasizing that he too navigates the threats that come with his forthright viewpoints.
