Just when fans thought peace had returned between Record L Jones and DJ Jaivane following the release of their 2024 joint album “The Reconciliation”, tensions have flared up once again—this time over royalty disputes.
In a passionate and detailed social media post, Record L Jones publicly accused DJ Jaivane and Simnandi Records of withholding royalties for their hit single “Ubusha Bethu”, which recently crossed 7 million streams. Despite the song’s major success, Record L claims he has not received any production payment or royalties, even though the track was recorded in his studio and he was responsible for its artwork and production.
“We just hit 7 million streams on ‘Ubusha Bethu’. We’re trying to resolve issues with Simnandi Records and DJ Jaivane to pay us our royalties, because things weren’t done correctly from the start,” Record L Jones stated.
He further alleged that Jaivane and Simnandi Records are attempting to claim ownership of the master rights, which he believes is unjust since no production costs were covered by the label.
In a significant escalation from previous online rants, Record L has now threatened legal action, saying he’s prepared to cut all ties with DJ Jaivane and Simnandi Records if that’s what it takes to get what he believes is rightfully his.
“I always try to resolve issues maturely but it seems my kindness is being taken for granted. If it means I should cut ties with DJ Jaivane, I will. I’m tired of being victimised.”
He also noted that he has documented evidence, including studio projects, artwork files, and correspondence, placed in “separated locations” should anything happen to him. He criticized DJ Jaivane for allegedly refusing direct communication and instead referring him to a manager who, according to Record L, was not involved when the song was originally released.
“This is just the beginning! I will post all evidence if I have to, because people on social media victimise us when we talk about such issues,” he added.
The fallout between these two talents now casts a shadow over what fans hoped was a reconciled partnership. As Record L Jones prepares to possibly take this fight to court, all eyes remain on DJ Jaivane and Simnandi Records to see how they will respond.
