
Excitement filled the atmosphere as the inaugural Red Bull Half Court National Finals unfolded at Wits University in Johannesburg on 13 September 2025. Following rigorous qualifying rounds held in Cape Town, Durban, and Pretoria, the top streetball teams from South Africa competed fiercely for national recognition and an opportunity to represent the country in Dubai this coming November.
In the men’s category, the MBB Blue Soldiers, consisting of Nino Dim, Lebesa Selepe, Neo Mothiba, and Rabbi Belolo-Lou, emerged victorious, while the women’s championship was secured by the Hoop Hustlers, comprised of Lauren Fredericks, Monicah Tlou, Khanyi Maphisa, and Liyabona Shannon Nondala. Both teams are now set to showcase their skills in Dubai, facing off against some of the most competitive streetball teams worldwide.

In true Red Bull fashion, the event was characterized by high-paced action and a strong competitive spirit. The focus extended beyond merely winning, as the “Own the Court” rule encouraged teams to score impressively and showcase their unique styles. Spectators experienced a vibrant atmosphere filled with basketball, music, and cultural celebration, embodying the global essence of streetball.
The men’s team captain, Lebesa Selepe, expressed the team’s joy: “We’ve just been crowned champions of Red Bull Half Court South Africa and booked our ticket to Dubai! You only get one shot at this thing called life, so keep firing!”
Similarly, the women’s captain, Lauren Fredericks, shared her feelings: “We’re so grateful for this opportunity and proud to represent SA. The journey has already been so much fun, and Dubai will be unforgettable.”

With champions now determined, the focus shifts to Dubai, where the country’s elite will compete for supremacy on the international basketball stage.
