SAPS Reaffirms Commitment to Daily Policing Amid Allegations of Corruption

The South African Police Service (SAPS), under National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, continues its daily operations across the country despite turmoil and recent arrests of high-ranking officials in the crime intelligence unit. Amid ongoing internal corruption allegations that surfaced on October 23, 2023, SAPS reassures the public that crime-fighting efforts remain steadfast and that law enforcement is committed to serving and protecting citizens.

Ongoing Policing Operations Amidst Leadership Turmoil

Despite recent arrests of key SAPS officials, including Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo, regular policing operations are reportedly ongoing across South Africa.

Brigadier Athlenda Mathe emphasized that the mandate of SAPS remains unaffected, ensuring public order and safety continue to be a priority.

Commissioner General Fannie Masemola is set to provide further details on policing efforts aimed at combating crime amidst the evolving situation.

Allegations of Corruption Within SAPS

Serious allegations have emerged involving Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and criminal elements allegedly influencing SAPS operations, as claimed by KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner.

Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has accused Mchunu of disbanding a critical task team focused on political killings, suggesting motives of interference with law enforcement.

Mkhwanazi’s claims include evidence linking Mchunu to a criminal syndicate involving significant financial dealings, raising concerns about integrity within the police department.

In closing, the South African Police Service (SAPS) urges all citizens to remain assured of our unwavering commitment to public safety. Despite the internal challenges and ongoing investigations, daily policing operations continue across the nation. We emphasize that our mandate to prevent and combat crime remains paramount. Trust that our officers are dedicated to serving and protecting every community in South Africa.
