Shimza responds to trending list of leading African DJs
South African DJ Shimza has addressed his inclusion among Spotify’s top 5 DJs after being subjected to years of criticism online.
The talented producer has been a prominent figure in the African music industry and was recently featured on a popular list showcasing the continent’s DJs with the highest number of monthly Spotify listeners.
With 2.8 million monthly listeners, Shimza secured the fourth position, surpassing well-known artists such as Black Coffee, Tyler ICU, Spinall, and Major League DJz.
Despite the positive recognition, some users on social media took the opportunity to criticize Shimza, claiming unfamiliarity with his music.
In his typical laid-back manner, the DJ reacted by sharing a humorous meme with the caption, “We don’t even know Shimza’s Music,” which was in response to the disparaging comments.
The dialogue soon expanded, with fans and critics voicing their opinions.
One commenter candidly remarked, “And to be quite honest I don’t know a single song from you,” while another user posted a meme with laughter stating, “Mina I’ll be honest bhuti, I’ve never heard ngisho neyodwa ingoma yakho.”
A third individual added: “I literally can’t name any song from your catalog. But I hear people say you’re a good DJ.”
