  • Charlie Kirk, an American conservative activist and supporter of President Donald Trump, was killed on Wednesday, 10 September 2025, at Utah Valley University
  • South African media figure Sol Phenduka expressed his views on Kirk’s death, noting the irony of the circumstances
  • Phenduka shared that he did not support the killing of Charlie Kirk, despite reflecting on his background as a podcaster

Experienced broadcaster Sol Phenduka has offered his reaction to the assassination of American activist Charlie Kirk. Kirk, who was an ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, was shot and killed on Wednesday, 10 September 2025, during a public gathering at Utah Valley University.

Following the news of Kirk’s death, several South African celebrities, including Gareth Cliff and DJ Euphonik weighed in. Sol Phenduka shared his perspective on Kirk’s unexpected demise during a recent episode of Podcast and Chill.

Sol Phenduka’s reflections on Charlie Kirk’s assassination

In a segment of Podcast and Chill that aired on Monday, 15 September 2025, Phenduka discussed the implications of Charlie Kirk’s death. Comedian Mpho Popps filled in for the absent MacG.

Phenduka, who is known for his candid style and has experienced professional setbacks due to comments made on Podcast and Chill, pointed out the contradictions surrounding Kirk’s assassination, particularly considering Kirk’s strong advocacy for gun rights.

While recognizing the irony of Kirk’s situation, having previously supported firearm ownership, Phenduka firmly stated that he did not approve of the shooting. He has also faced backlash for previous remarks on the show, demonstrating a clear awareness of the complexities involved.

“I’m not celebrating his death, but I do acknowledge the poetic-ness of, you know, him saying, ‘A few murders is fine, but people need to keep guns,’ and then he goes out that way. I do acknowledge that, but I don’t think he’s deserving. You can’t just be killed for your views, bro. As a podcaster, it would be silly to say, nah, yeah, he deserved the truth. We sit here, and people disagree. Somebody is disagreeing with my view now,” Phenduka said.

Television presenter Rorisang Thandekiso shared her grief regarding Kirk’s assassination through an Instagram story on her official account, which ignited significant discussion online.

Social media users reacted variably to Rorisang’s comments on the death of the American podcaster and activist.
