Kaya 959 presenter, DJ and podcaster Sol Phenduka has finally opened up about the reasons behind his suspension from the radio station.
Listeners and fans were taken aback when Kaya 959 revealed, in a statement on Wednesday, that Phenduka was suspended without delay pending the results of an ongoing internal review.
“The station is committed to following due process, and no further details will be shared at this stage. Updates will be provided once the internal process has been concluded and a final decision has been reached,” read the brief statement.
Speculation ran rampant on social media, with many users sharing their theories regarding the cause of the suspension. Some hypothesized that the legal proceedings instigated by Minnie Dlamini after remarks made on “Podcast and Chill” could be linked to the decision.
Phenduka had tweeted urging inquisitive followers to tune in to Thursday’s podcast episode for the answers they sought.
The “Diqabang” artist disclosed during the podcast his perspective on the situation, asserting that he did nothing wrong.
“This happened this morning, when I left the meeting, they said don’t say anything. So I don’t say anything because of the confidentiality clause.
“I’m suspended for seven days. I’m suspended… You know what it’s about, the court case with Minnie.
“It’s an old story, but when the court case happened, then they came through. Cause then obviously you’ve brought the station into dispute, cause what you are affiliated with outside.
“I’m surprised cause they were like, don’t talk about it, then they dropped the statement, but I’m like guys I’m doing a podcast.”
Phenduka mentioned that there is new leadership at Kaya 959 and noted that he did not speak during the meeting.
Mac G (Macgyver Mukwevho), Phenduka’s co-host who has history with Kaya 959, remarked that Phenduka’s time at the station is effectively over based on their approach.
“The writing is on the wall; it’s quite clear where this is going but I lasted though,” expressed Phenduka.
Phenduka became part of Kaya 959 three years ago. The former “Big Brother” contestant faced a previous suspension from 5FM back in 2015 following controversial statements about murders in Stellenbosch.
